Houston’s First Annual Ice Carving Contest

Yesterday’s afternoon might be a little bit chilly, but it was perfect weather for enjoying outdoor activities at Discovery Green. Saturday, January 10th, marked a very special event: Houston’s First Annual Magnificent Seven All Out Ice Sculpting. This competition challenged 7 of the top ice carving sculptors in the country competing to create the best ice masterpiece, using 7 tons of ice in just 7 hours. The winner goes home with the title of best creation as well as a nice stack of money prize. The artists used tools like chainsaws, blowtorches and… clothes irons?? Each artist transformed blocks of ice into anything they wanted. Now, that’s called creativity!
